I don’t like hype. I have a natural aversion to all things hyped. Therefore, the bigger Harry Potter got, the more I didn’t want to be involved. Not that I don’t love Harry–I do. So I knew all along I’d have to read. I would have preferred, though, to wait. To savor it, to read it slowly.

It is the last book, of course. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Thanks to the cruel joy so many people seem to be taking in ruining the joy of the book for us fans, I decided I’d better just get it and read it as fast as I could.

So. Ten hours later and I’m done. I’m…at a loss. It went by so fast. I…am going to have to read it again.

I won’t give my impressions yet, except that I’ve rarely read a more satisfying give-and-take, back-and-forth, than those last few chapters.

My main reason for writing is, I guess, to say Neener, Neener! to all the bastards so intent on ruining the enjoyment of so many people. To those printing spoilers (New York Times, I heard?), those putting crap up on YouTube and other places, traipsing through forums and leaving anguish in your wake–to you I say, Tongue Out 9.

Or, in the words of Albus Dumbledore, “Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!”

No one who loves Harry would act so.  And no one who doesn’t love Harry can possibly fathom what they are missing.

I pity those who can only find enjoyment in ruining the joy of others.
