I didn’t. I consider myself up to date on the things that are important to me–the environment, human rights, many avenues of science–but I hadn’t heard of this.
It’s hideous.
They’re not the most articulate people; they’re not practiced TV hosts spouting lines. In their situation, “totally bummed” might be the best I could come up with too.
