Those of you who know me online know I tend to use marine animals as weapons. If you know me offline–well, it’s a long story. Just accept that I tend to use marine animals as weapons. In particular, I use fish-thwacks to threaten encourage my writer friends to accomplish.

So you’ll understand my joy that Wonderer the Magnificent got me a fish pen.

Here it is, in all its glory! Just look at that thwacking action!

(This is my first attempt both at using the “movie” feature on my digital camera, and at uploading it, so please bear with me if I did something annoying. If it’s huge and slow loading or something, I’ll…attempt to do something about it?)

(Also, apologies, but I put up the next-to-last chapter of Shades and then left no way to reach it. This has been remedied. My sincerest regrets for any inconvenience the delayal of new smut has caused you.)

For Which I Am Grateful

My little girl is taller than I am. She’s strong and healthy and bright and compassionate and kind, even if she is often hard of hearing.

I have a good, stable job with benefits that is fulfilling in many ways, and gives me lots of time to pursue my writing career.

Within me there is a glorious joy, and all I have to do to tap it is put words in order.

My brother is a great guy, my sis-in-law is a dream, and my nephew is the most adorable child ever with the possible occasional exception of my own.

I have friends who will go to bat for me, who will help me without being asked, who will tell me when I’m being stupid, and then forgive me.

I have friends who will drive me around when my car has been broken down for months.

My home is lovely, and my cats are…cats. And I love them.

I am blessed. And I am very, very grateful.

I want to travel. I want to see the world. Eat Japanese food with Japanese people, see the incredible beauty of Siberia, explore the vistas of Alaska. I want to learn snorkeling off Hawaii, and sailing in Bermuda. (I make no guarantees at being good at either.) I want to go whitewater rafting. I want to go spelunking. I want to wander Europe, possibly for years. I want to explore the Outback, and whatever they call what’s not Outback. I want to see whales and flying sharks (from a BIG BOAT) and I want to watch the moon rise over the pyramids. I want to wander Chichen Itza and Machu Picchu, Jerusalem and Prague.

But more than all of that, I want to write.

With all of that, I want to write. I don’t care to be rich (luckily–even successful writers generally are not.) I just want to make enough. See the world, and write wherever I am. There are worlds inside me, and I want to explore them too.

I’ll have to wait to travel. Maybe I’ll never get there at all. But it is a joyous and brilliant thing that I do not have to wait and hope for the chance, the time, to write.
